Understanding Certify Degree due process

There are two ways to do this.

  1. Certified Copy of Your Degree Certificate

A certified copy is a true copy of the original degree certificate, verified by an authorised individual such as a notary public or solicitor. This certification confirms that the copy of degree certificate is an accurate and unaltered reflection of the original document.

This method does not authenticate the degree with the awarding institution.

Certified copies are often required when the original certificate cannot be submitted, ensuring that institutions or employers can trust the validity of your qualifications.

In many cases this process will suffice. But sometimes, authentication is required, read on.

  1. Authenticating your Degree Certificate

This is where us notaries, contact the university and request them to certify to us that your university degree award certificate is genuine.

Acting in our role of notary public will then produce a statement saying that

  1. We have contacted the University Student Hub

  2. We have asked them to verify your award

  3. The university has verified your award as genuine; and
  4. The copy of your degree certificate (and transcript, if applicable) is a true copy of the original document.

Notarisation ensures that your educational documents are legally recognised internationally.

It is best if you ask the person requesting notarisation as to whether they need just a certified copy as in 1. above or they want your degree authenticated as in 2. above.

Apostille and Consular Legalisation Requirements

After notarisation, your document may require legalisation to be recognised in another country.

In the UK, this involves obtaining an apostille certificate from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). Visit our Apostille page for further information on this.

The FCDO Legalisation Office apply a certificate which confirms the document has been signed by a notary. For FCDO Legalisation Office, refer to the GOV.UK website for detailed information.

The apostille certifies the notary’s signature, making your document valid in countries that are signatories to the Hague Apostille Convention.

Detailed guidance on this process is available on our Apostille pave and on the GOV.UK website.

We can get you an Apostille in a guaranteed timeframe as we send messengers to the FCDO counter service on a daily basis.

E-notarisation and E-Apostille

If you require a soft copy as opposed to a hard copy, this can be achieved… through the process of E-Notarisation.

This is where the notarial certificate is done electronically and the notarial certificate and clear scans are used instead of paper.

E-Apostilles can be obtained if the notary signs the E-notarial certificate using a Qualified Electronic Signature.

We offer this service. Visit our E-Apostille page for more information.

Embassy Legalisation

For countries not part of the Hague Convention, additional embassy legalisation may be necessary.

This process involves the embassy or consulate of the destination country authenticating your document.

It’s essential to verify the specific requirements of the country to which you’re submitting your degree certificate, as procedures can vary.

Visit our Country Guide for the packages we offer to certify degrees for countries like the UAE, Vietnam, Thailand and others.
