Whether you need a Power of Attorney notarised for use abroad, a statutory declaration witnessed, or important documents certified for international use, you need a qualified Notary you can trust to get it right first time.
Edward Young Notaries & Lawyers is an established notarial practice in London serving both private individuals and corporate clients across the United Kingdom and beyond. Our Notary Public is authorised by the Court of Faculties under the authority of the Archbishop of Canterbury — the historic regulator of notaries in England and Wales — and is a proud member of the Notaries Society.
A Notary Public is a qualified lawyer who belongs to one of the oldest branches of the legal profession. Unlike solicitors, notaries are specifically trained and authorised to prepare documents that carry legal weight in foreign countries. If your documents need to be used internationally, a notary’s signature and seal are almost certainly what you need.
Notarisation Services We Provide
Our notarial practice handles a wide range of notary public services for both personal documents and business documents. Every notarial act we carry out is completed to the highest professional standards, ensuring your documents are accepted without question wherever they are needed.
Powers of Attorney
We prepare and notarise Powers of Attorney for use in foreign countries. Whether you need a general Power of Attorney, a specific Power of Attorney for a property transaction abroad, or a corporate power of attorney for your business, our qualified Notary will ensure the document is correctly drafted, executed, and — where required — legalised for use in the relevant jurisdiction.
Statutory Declarations
Statutory declarations are formal written statements made under oath. They are used for a variety of purposes including confirming a change of name, verifying facts for use in legal proceedings, or supporting applications to government bodies both in the United Kingdom and overseas. Our Notary Public administers the oath and witnesses your declaration, giving it full legal standing.

Certified Copies of Documents
Many organisations and foreign authorities require a certified copy of important documents such as passports, identification documents, company documents, academic certificates, and other personal documents. Our Notary will examine the original document, prepare a certified copy, and confirm its authenticity with the Notary’s signature and official seal. We handle copies of documents for both private individuals and corporate clients.
Company Documents and Corporate Notarial Services
Corporate clients regularly need company documents notarised for international business. This includes board resolutions, certificates of incorporation, memoranda and articles of association, share certificates, and corporate Powers of Attorney. We provide detailed information and guidance to ensure your business documents are correctly prepared for their intended use. Visit our Corporate Notary Service.
Foreign Wills
If you own property or assets in a foreign country, you may need a separate will governed by the law of that jurisdiction. Our Notary Public can assist with the preparation and execution of foreign wills, ensuring they are properly notarised and meet the requirements of the relevant legal system.
Witnessing and Authentication
A core part of our notarial services involves witnessing signatures, administering oaths, affidavits, and authenticating documents for use by third-party organisations, embassies, consulates, and overseas courts. Each notarial act is recorded in our official register and can be verified independently.
Apostille and Legalisation Services
Many foreign countries require documents to carry an apostille — an official certificate issued by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (now formally the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office) — before they will be accepted. Some jurisdictions that are not members of the Hague Apostille Convention require full consular legalisation instead.
We offer a complete apostille and legalisation service. Once our Notary Public has notarised your documents, we can arrange for them to be submitted to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office for an apostille, and onward to the relevant embassy or consulate if consular legalisation is required. This saves you significant time and avoids the risk of documents being rejected. Any additional cost for legalisation services is quoted upfront as part of our fixed-fee approach — no surprises.
How Our Notary Public Services Work
We have designed our process to be straightforward and efficient. Here is what to expect when you use the services of a Notary Public at our practice:
Receive your notarised documents — Once the notarial act is complete, you will receive your documents bearing the Notary’s signature, seal, and — where applicable — a notarial certificate. If you need apostille or legalisation services, we handle everything from here at no additional hassle.
Get in touch — Contact us by telephone, email, or through our website with detailed information about what you need. We will confirm the service required, the documents you need to bring, and provide a clear fixed-fee quote before you commit.

Our qualified Notary will carry out the relevant checks required by law, including identity verification and compliance with Anti-Money Laundering regulations.
Mobile Notary Service — We visit you if your time is tight.
Online Notary Service — We operate one of the UK’s leading online notary platforms.
Regulation, Compliance, and Your Protection
As a regulated branch of the legal profession, notaries in England and Wales are subject to strict professional standards. Our notarial practice is regulated by the Faculty Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury through the Court of Faculties, and we are members of the Notaries Society — the professional body representing notaries across England and Wales.
We take our obligations seriously. This includes full compliance with Anti-Money Laundering regulations and Data Protection legislation. We hold comprehensive professional indemnity insurance, giving you peace of mind that your interests are fully protected. Our Data Protection Privacy Notice is available on request and sets out in detail how we handle your personal information.
Before any notarial act is carried out, our qualified Notary will complete the relevant checks required by law. These include verifying your identity using appropriate identification documents and, where necessary, carrying out enhanced due diligence. We explain every step clearly so you know exactly what is happening and why.

FAQ Section
What is a Notary Public and how do they differ from a solicitor?
A Notary Public is a qualified lawyer who belongs to a specialist branch of the legal profession. While solicitors handle a broad range of legal work, a qualified Notary is specifically authorised to prepare, witness, and authenticate documents for international use. The Notary’s signature and seal are recognised in foreign countries worldwide, giving your documents legal validity abroad.
What documents do I need to bring to my appointment?
You will need to bring valid identification documents — typically a current passport and a recent utility bill or bank statement showing your address. You should also bring any original documents that need to be notarised. Our team will confirm exactly what to bring when you book your appointment, so there are no wasted journeys.
How much do notary public services cost?
We operate on a fixed-fee basis, which means you will know exactly what our notarial services cost before you commit. Fees vary depending on the complexity of the notarial act — a straightforward certified copy will cost less than a complex Power of Attorney for use in a foreign country, for example. Any additional cost for apostille or legalisation services is quoted separately and upfront. Contact us for a no-obligation quote. See our Notary Fee page for further detail.
What is an apostille and do I need one?
An apostille is a certificate issued by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office that verifies the authenticity of a notarised document for use in countries that are members of the Hague Apostille Convention. If you are sending documents to a foreign country, you will very likely need an apostille. We arrange apostille services as part of our legalisation services so you do not need to deal with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office yourself.
Can you notarise documents in a foreign language?
Yes. Our Notary Public regularly handles documents in a foreign language. Where necessary, we will arrange for a certified translation, or work with a translator you provide. The notarial act confirms the authenticity of the signature and the document itself, regardless of the language in which it is written.
How long does the notarisation process take?
Most straightforward notarial services — such as witnessing a statutory declaration or producing a certified copy — can be completed in a single appointment, often within 30 minutes. More complex matters such as Powers of Attorney for foreign countries may require additional preparation time. We offer same-day appointments where availability permits.
Do you handle notarisation for businesses and corporate clients?
Absolutely. A significant part of our notarial practice involves working with corporate clients. We notarise company documents, board resolutions, corporate Powers of Attorney, and other business documents for international use. We understand the urgency that often accompanies commercial transactions and can accommodate tight deadlines.
